The recent law 219/2005 (paragraph 2 of Article 2) defines "voluntary, regular, responsible, free and anonymous" donation of human blood and blood components . The number of adjectives could go on, but still they would serve only to describe the characteristics of the donation depending on the recipient. No appeal would, in fact, adequate enough to describe the value (and moral) that holds blood donation and its benefits for the same donor, because up to now has not been properly placed in evidence the correlation between clinical periodic donation of blood and reducing the risk of serious chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and insulin-dependent diabetes type.

Clinical trials on donors

In fact, there are a number of clinical trials that demonstrate the actual reduction of risk to contracting a cardiovascular disease in people who perform at least one donation a year. The protection against these diseases would result from reduced tissue levels of ferritin, iron, and then, which are the result of regular blood donation. It is known fact that dall'aterosclerosi females than males are protected, by virtue of the lowest levels of tissue iron and thus lower levels of lipid peroxidation. The voluntary blood donation and menstruation in women cause blood loss, and then modulate the body's iron stores. The low tissue levels of iron to protect against atherosclerosis due to a reduced oxidation of low density lipoprotein associated cholesterol.

Grande accused: iron

From biochemical point of view, it seems that the depletion (loss reduction) of iron can alter the activity of iron-dependent enzymes, increase the antioxidant capacity of plasma lipid peroxidation and decrease of plasma components and vascular walls. In support of the argument that the reduction of risk factors is associated with low levels of iron in the blood, experimental studies, clinical and epidemiological studies show that high levels of iron increase the risk of coronary events and atherosclerotic progression. For example, experiments on animals have shown a correlation between accumulation of iron from the diet and incidence of atherosclerotic processes and ischemic cardiac disease and stroke. Some studies show that regularly donate blood drastically reduce risk of heart attack and propensity to diabetes. In humans, iron is a pro-oxidant factor that may be related to progression of atherosclerosis. E 'has been suggested that the reduction of iron stores (as occurs in regular donors) can reduce the risk of coronary ischemia. Clinical studies on this subject are not numerous, but those most relevant to confirm the hypothesis above. One of these, for example, has assessed the effects of periodic donation on iron stores and physiological and biochemical parameters of vascular function associated with atherosclerosis. The subjects recruited, members of the American Red Cross, have been subjected to investigations on the dilation of the brachial artery, plasma parameters related to deposits di ferro, ad un eventuale stato infiammatorio dei vasi, al cosiddetto “stress ossidativo”, ai fattori di rischio cardiaci. This suggests a positive relationship between frequency of blood donations and prevention of cardiovascular disease.

Donors periodicals: -86% risk of heart attack

Another study evaluated, more specifically, the relationship between frequency of blood donation and incidence of myocardial infarction on 2682 subjects . In the observation period, lasting about six years, it was noted that the risk of acute myocardial infarction in the regular donors was 86% lower than that of episodic donors. Factors such as medical history, general health status, lifestyle and psycho-social characteristics exert a little influence on this phenomenon.

also less exposed to the "type 2 diabetes, noninsulin dependent

Epidemiologists have long noted that the periodic donation of blood is associated with a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes (insulin-dependent ). Some studies, for example, investigated the correlation between iron stores and insulin sensitivity in blood donors and people who have never donated blood. In a study of 181 male individuals, it was shown that donors who had donated blood at least two runs, had a greater sensitivity and a reduction in insulin secretion, compared to individuals not donors. The usual donation of blood is then bound together with an increase in insulin sensitivity and reduction of iron deposits. These deposits appear to affect the action of insulin in healthy subjects, and not only in individuals with diseases classically related to an accumulation of iron such as hemochromatosis and hemosiderosis. Among other things, clinical This evidence requires a review of the scientific community to the concept of "excess" applicable to deposits of iron in healthy subjects. These data suggest, therefore, that the periodic donation of blood can exert a protective action nei confronti di patologie croniche molto gravi.

Ho anche sentito il dottor Bertolaso dire davanti ad un pubblico italiano che was tired of listening to this kind of self congratulation. Once, this observation could be true, because other countries were not equipped with a high level of development of the sector. But now?

All in all, in Italy the model organization capable of addressing the major events is basically well thought out and has a solid foundation. It has some very valuable skills, such as:
- the mayor, local civil protection chief, is elected by the people and is a direct link with the people assisted;
- legally protecting fundamental civil service newspaper, equal with other State and municipal services;
- volunteering, preziossisma risorsa basilare, costituisce un altro essenziale legame con i beneficiari, ovvero la popolazione;
- l'organizzazione è capillare in modo ininterrotto da Roma all'ultimo comune;

- in questo settore la Svezia è riuscita a fare più progresso in 11 mesi e mezzo che l'Italia abbia fatto in 30 anni (basta ricordare la legge 996 del 1970, non ancora pienamente attiva nel 1984);
- la Gran Bretagna ha un sistema di comando e controllo molto più ben articolato di quello italiano;
- inoltre, tramite una buona e modern law on the basis of national civil protection, the United Kingdom involved the private sector in defense against disasters much better than in Italy;
- Britain requires municipalities, counties and regions have not only plans, but in parallel continuity plans of their activities (hence the Emergency Planning Society UK there are 2,500 members), while in Italy the BCM is not developed even in private companies;
- The Netherlands has a system of communication and more rapid reaction advanced than the Italian: with a culture of involvement of the people in preparation for emergencies that boasts 57 years of the daily, the Dutch are very evolved in this;
- the level of technological excellence and management is higher in South Korea;
- the meticulousness of the prevention of hydrogeological disasters in Hong Kong is to dream in Italy;
... and so on.

In Italy, there is a civil defense spending € 70 million per month on major events in 15 years but has not been able to issue national guidelines for training.

planning guidelines have receded by 12 to 16 years and do not reflect the reality of a country that has changed, especially concerning the role of subsidiarity.

Alla mia costernazione, Il paese, forse narcotizzato dalla televisione del Premier, per several weeks did not notice either of this act. Then all of a sudden things turn the other way. It turns out that privatization is the top of the iceberg, and below, many other cases of mismanagement are linked to civil protection.

As I wrote in that blog, in this area, the scandals are cyclical. In 1999 there was to send by Professor Franco Barberi and charged offenses, results for the most part non-existent or insignificant, to his flock. Now there is to remake the accounts in the same way. In 1999 The Civil Protection Agency, and died in three months in 2010 created the Civil Defense SpA, and dies in less than three months.

Underneath all this mess is politics. But the basic reason for this is to provide civil protection assistance to the population irrispettivemente political considerations. It 'a sector of government has a moral duty to be apolitical, or at least to exist above politics. And so it must be essentially and always clean. But, judging from what the newspapers, faced with large expenses, there are too many temptations.

One thing in which the Italian civil protection agency, or joint stock company or whatever it is, emphatically, is not excellent is prevention. Progress in this area is tiny. Maybe it is the responsibility of other agencies of the Italian government, but they did not progress.

days ago I saw a city, in front of his house, partly dismantled by a landslide, getting angry at the lack or slow pace of assistance from the government. So, I am fully in favor of welfare, but think of the syllogism:
- the city decided to build their home in a place that is crumbling;
- is a landslide;
- the house is damaged;
- ergo, the blame the government.

Maybe, but in most cases no. The temptation to shift the blame is watered by successive governments, right and left who are seduced by the possibility of gaining votes wasting public resources arbitrarily and suppressing the tendency of citizens to take responsibility for their actions. To my surprise, despite the hostile financial climate (and fiscal), the welfare system is still alive, in fact, is thriving. Consequently there is spent on prevention. In fact, at the dawn of the new era of great global Disaster Risk Reduction, Italy has been on the international stage with so feeble and ill-thought initiatives that may not exist mica.

The portrait that I painted is painted black, but we can see it in two ways. The negative and raise your hands, turn your shoulders and do nothing, living in paralysis characteristic of the politically powerless. The one positive is to renew struggle for civil protection as it should. This can be done, because the sound comes from civil protection initiatives small and humble, but are finally able to show the right path, and spread good practice. More difficult, the circumstances are unacceptable, the more you have to fight for a healthier future, more rational, more prudent, more well designed.

White Baby Doll Dress

LA PAURA NON ESISTE 27 MARZO ORE 19.30 PARROCCHIA S. MARIA ANNUNZIATA

Fabio Salvatore, dopo il successo di pubblico e critica di “Cancro, non mi fai paura”, torna a cimentarsi con un romanzo shock autobiografico, senza regole né frasi fatte, che con veemenza defends the right to life against those who do not live it fully, do not respect it and ends up destroying himself and others. Why the 'cockroach' to sneak twelve years ago, he was able to speak.
defeated him so, looking into his eyes and speaking, then running out to earn a new life. The first book became a movie cinema. It will be the first time in Italy dealing with a history of cancer, openly.
No frills, no reticence, with the strength and knowledge of who has the skin of the legacies left by the beetle.

This second work, "Fear does not exist", wrote always Aliberti Editor, once again is the story of the path of men who face the disease and the defeat and marginalization. If in the constant struggle between good and evil, the premise is that we must make the right choice, exactly the most difficult, without giving the illusion of easy shortcuts, cowardly complicit in a sick society, the message of the book has a disruptive force to never succumb to evil, face it is the supreme lesson of life.
Fear does not exist, as the title of the novel is a song by Tiziano Ferro that Fabio loves, "Because life is a hymn to joy, love. When you fall and you feel discomfort, not be afraid. And 'at that moment that you can discover something about yourself you did not know. " Fabio

present for the second time in his book Cellucci at the Parish of St. Maria Annunziata March 27 at 19.30, after the remarkable success achieved last July.
An event strongly supported by our association Fratres, for years engaged in the fight against cancer, a disease that perhaps inspires less fear now than in previous years, thanks to advances in science but still has that fear in itself difficult to overcome, that fear that you can feel the very moment to pronounce the word: cancer.

"We call things by their name, "eliminating any form of silence. "Cancer is a disease like any other, has neither more nor less. Cancer patients, however, change their way of looking at life, their way of giving value to things, even the most trivial [...]
Cancer gives you the opportunity to see the world through your eyes and not with those of others.
"Do not be afraid of the pain [...] does not matter, fear does not exist."

Besides the prologue of the same hymn book is the love of St. Paul and for him in that hymn is the essence of life.

And Fabio, on the other hand, nothing is more important to love yourself.

The proceeds of the royalties will be donated to New Horizons, (www.nuoviorizzonti-onlus.com), founded with the aim to cope with social problems especially among the young.
